Demand Spread Index Overview
Here's all you need to know about the Demand Spread Index (DSI) dashboard.
📕 Description
The Demand Spread Index (DSI) Dashboard allows users to analyze their current scheduling processes to identify trends where they could reduce the number of trucks required and in turn, reduce their delivery costs.
🎯 Management Questions
- How efficiently are we scheduling and spreading our order out throughout the day?
- Which plant or plant groups have the lowest DSI score?
- Do I have peaks and valleys throughout the day where we are calling excess trucks to handle a short surge in orders?
💰 Opportunities
Timeframe: Last 1 Month
Opportunities are calculated based on the DSI score of the individual plants versus the plant average DSI for the last full month. Improving your DSI score equates to simulating the cost impact of shipping the same volume using less trucks.
To visualize the impact of improving DSI. The graph below (graph 1) is an example of a plant where there is two peaks throughout the day where the dispatch is requiring ~35 trucks to complete the delivery demand. If this plant where to work on efficiently scheduling their orders throughout the day to avoid the peaks. You would effectively eliminate the peaks and require less trucks and have a more full and flat demand graph (graph 2).

❓FAQ
1. Why is the average number of trucks displayed in the DSI Improvement Calculator less than the total number of trucks in my fleet?
The reason the number of trucks in the calculator is less than the total number of trucks in your fleet is due to the calculator using the average peak number of trucks used during the date range selected. You may have a fleet of 40 trucks, but the average trucks called in during your peak delivery window is much less on average.
2. Does DSI take into consideration weekends? Can I exclude weekends from the analysis?
DSI does in fact take into consideration weekends where you have supplied concrete.
No, we currently do not have the functionality in the dashboard to exclude weekend deliveries.
